The History of Stamp Art

The History of Stamp Art

Stamp Art is the process of using Postage Stamps as Paint to produce colourful Artworks with meaning and imagination to conceptualize an emotion, idea or moment by the artist who can express themselves using Postage Stamps as their choice of material to create an artwork with meaningful expression.

Established in 2001, Tino the Stamp Artist began working with Postage Stamps as a new medium to design and create unique and authentic presentations and works of art to bring the world of Postage Stamps to the publics attention at a time when postage stamp collecting was starting to fade. Having a vast background of experience in design, print and publishing he wanted to create an artistic identity of difference using a new medium for producing artworks and using postage stamps was the natural choice as Tino has been a fastidious stamp collector since he was a child, is an expert in GB postage stamp errors, varieties and high value stamps from around the world, also having been a dealer in postage stamp issues for more than 30 years.

While taking a break from his corporate career at the Hewlett Packard company in 2001, Tino established the movement of Stamp Art using postage stamps as paint as a showcase when returning to his corporate role with the Hewlett Packard Digital Printing Solutions center in Barcelona. Tino specialised in the Retail Sector working with client including BOOTS, John Lewis Partnership, Marks & Spencer, Royal Mail Group, Sainsburys PLC to name but a few.

Since Tino established Stamp Art in 2001, Stamp Art is becoming a movement in its own right, with a number of new artists using the medium of postage stamps to create artworks. Using postage stamps to make artworks, brings the value of the postage stamp to the public eye and involves using stamps with history, storytelling and wonderful design illustrations to paint a picture in people’s minds of the meaning of the Artwork, as well as the postal stamps used in an artwork.

Tino was the first Artist in the World to establish a website focused on the medium of using postal stamp history to present artworks. The Stamp Art Gallery, stampartist.co.uk provides clients with an educational and informative understanding of the use of Postal Stamps, layouts of Stamp Artworks including rare and valuable stamps to create Artworks of significance and meaning that appeal to art lovers and those wishing to own a valuable Stamp Artwork created by using postage stamps as paint.

The Stamp Art Gallery provides a insightful and educational review of postage stamp artworks presented in a variety of designs to highlight the focus of the artistic process of stamp art, the history and intrigue involved in postal stamp issues, the meanings behind the imagery chosen for postal stamps and the way the stamps are used as ‘paint’ to create valuable and collectable artworks.

A full range of unique mixed media Artworks by Tino can be viewed and purchased with a variety of printing options and framing choices for individual collections, which come with their own certificate of authenticity, a validation collectors postage stamp linked to each artwork and secured in a digital certificate, can be purchased through the Stamp Art Shop, shop.stampartist.co.uk
