Stamping Authority and Meaning: Fine Art Course for Experienced Adult Artists

Overview
Curriculum

Course Overview
Stamping Authority and Meaning is an advanced contemporary fine art course for experienced adult artists who wish to extend their practice through the investigation of postage stamps as visual language, cultural objects and artistic materials.
Participants will explore how postage stamps communicate ideas about identity, place, history, politics, memory, value, commerce and belonging. Through research, experimentation and critical reflection, artists will transform small-scale printed images into resolved contemporary artworks using traditional, analogue, digital and hybrid processes.
The course includes fine art research, idea generation, pantography, traditional cutting methods, mosaic-making, material translation, digital design, printing and AI-assisted practice. It also develops artists’ understanding of copyright, intellectual property, ethical use and professional copywriting.
Through sustained studio practice, peer critique and refinement, participants will produce a coherent body of work supported by an artist statement, portfolio and exhibition proposal.
